Privacy Policy

Time Zones Map is a free time zone reference site. You don't need an account to use it, and we don't ask for your name or email unless you choose to send us something. This page explains what is collected — mostly by the analytics and advertising services we use — and the choices available to you.
Here's the short version
- We use Google Analytics to count visits and understand which pages and tools are useful.
- Google Analytics and our advertising providers may use cookies or similar technologies, subject to the privacy choices available in your region.
- We store a few counters and preferences in your browser for things like feature announcements and map settings. Most stay entirely on your device.
- If you send us feedback or join a research panel, we receive whatever information you choose to provide.
- Session recording is currently switched off. We still count how the business hours lookup is used — anonymously, in much the same way that we count page visits — but nothing is currently being recorded.
- Some privacy laws may classify certain uses of advertising technologies as a "sale," "sharing," or use of personal information for targeted advertising. Where applicable, you can exercise the privacy choices available on this site.
What we collect on the public site
Analytics: understanding site usage and improving the service
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use Time Zones Map.
Google may temporarily use information such as your IP address to derive approximate location information. Google Analytics 4 does not provide your IP address to us or include it in our Analytics reports.
Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies to recognize repeat visits. We use this information to understand things like which pages people visit, which features are useful, and how the site can be improved. We do not use Google Analytics to try to identify individual visitors.

Advertising: funding the free site
Time Zones Map is supported by advertising, which helps us keep the site's maps, converters, reference information, and other tools available without requiring a subscription.
Ads are currently served through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure advertising and, depending on your location and privacy choices, personalize advertising based on activity on this and other sites.
You can review or change Google's advertising personalization settings through Google's My Ad Center and learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services in Google's privacy documentation.
Advertising providers and applicable privacy controls may change over time. When they do, we will update this policy to reflect the services being used.
Things stored in your browser
A few values are written to your browser's local storage:
- Visit and time counters — how many times you've visited and roughly how long you've spent here, so we only show invitations to people who actually use the site. These stay on your device.
- Dismissal flags — remembering that you answered or closed a prompt so it doesn't immediately come back. These stay on your device.
- Display preferences — such as your chosen map settings. These stay on your device.
- Business hours lookup counters — how many times you've opened that feature, how many separate days it was used. Counts derived from these interactions may be included in our analytics so we can understand whether people find the feature useful. These counters do not contain information intended to identify you.
Clearing your browser's site data removes locally stored values, and the site continues to work normally without them.
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect information we hold. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Things you send us
Feedback is collected so we can respond to visitors and make product decisions.
Feedback forms, poll answers, research participation, and early-access sign-ups may be delivered to us through services such as Formspree and Tally.
We receive whatever you choose to enter into those forms, which may include your name or email address when you provide them.
We use that information to respond to you, conduct research you agreed to participate in, and decide what to improve or build.
We don't add you to a marketing mailing list unless you have asked to join one.
Research: product analytics and session recording
We use PostHog to count how the business hours lookup is used — such as how often it is opened, whether a search returned a result, and whether visitors come back to it.
These events are designed as anonymous counts and yes/no values and do not include free-text search content intended to identify you.
Session recording is currently switched off, so sessions are not currently being recorded.
If we enable session recording for research in the future, it may operate in the following places and only after you explicitly agree:
- The business hours lookup. If recording is enabled and you open it, we may ask whether you're willing to have that session recorded. Browsing the rest of the site does not automatically begin a recording.
- Research prototypes. Some unlisted pages may be shared by direct link with people who have agreed to participate in user research.
Recording will not begin automatically where explicit consent is required. If you decline, you can continue using the applicable feature.
If you agree, a recording may capture
- Clicks, scrolling, mouse movement, and how the page changes
- Screen size, browser, operating system, and approximate region
- For research participants, a pseudonymous panel code associated with an invitation
It does not capture
- Text entered into fields that are configured to be masked
- Your camera or microphone
- Activity outside the browser page or research experience where recording was enabled
Where session recording is offered, you may stop it using the controls provided.
Research recordings, when collected, are retained only for the period described when you consent, currently up to 30 days. If you participated in research and want a recording removed sooner, contact us with your panel code.
Who else may receive data
Depending on which parts of the site you use, service providers may include:
- Google — analytics and advertising
- PostHog — product analytics and research features where enabled
- Formspree and Tally — form delivery
- Vercel — site hosting and standard server request processing

Some service providers are based in, or process information in, the United States or other countries. As a result, use of the site can involve international processing or transfer of the information described in this policy.
Your choices and privacy rights
You can:
- Block or delete cookies using your browser settings or browse using private-browsing features. Some advertising or analytics features may behave differently as a result.
- Opt out of Google Analytics across supported sites using Google's official browser add-on.
- Control Google advertising personalization through My Ad Center.
- Decline optional session recording whenever it is offered.
- Ask us to delete information that you submitted directly to us.
Depending on where you live, applicable privacy law may also give you rights relating to your personal information, including rights to request access to or information about personal information collected about you, correct inaccurate information, request deletion, and opt out of certain sales, sharing, targeted advertising, or similar processing.
Where applicable, advertising-related privacy choices can be exercised using the privacy controls provided on the site. For information that we hold directly, you may contact us at privacy@time-zones-map.com.
Where required by applicable law and supported by the services operating on the site, recognized opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control may also be treated as a request to opt out of applicable advertising-related processing.
Children
Time Zones Map is a general-purpose reference site and is not directed at children under 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the site, the services we use, or applicable privacy requirements change.
When we make changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
